Today I was evaluating a patient in the hospital. He is 83 and a little confused, but doing all right. I was testing his cognition and ability to express his thoughts, and I asked him to define the word affection. This was his response:
"Affection? Affection is loosing the woman you love after 53 years." He looked down and got really quite. "That's affection"
